lululemon offers Free Fitness

Weird Wednesdays are back at lululemon, starting this afternoon with Brooke’s Bootcamp on top of Whole Foods from 6:30-7:30pm. Don’t know what Brooke’s Bootcamp entails, but sounds fun, and who wouldn’t want to hit the WF salad bar afterward?

Today also marks the first day you can shop lululemon online, so all you online-shopping-addicts (erm, uh, NOT ME) can get the fingers working on some workout gear. http://lululemon.com/shop/index.php … um, THANK GOD THIS IS AN APRIL FOOL’S JOKE. The 9-year-old KidPix design is a total throwback to the mid-nineties when everyone thought they could “design” a website. But does this mean that online shopping is also an April Fool’s joke? That does not make me happy.

As usual, the yoga-wear store on 6th & Lamar offers free Saturday yoga from 8:30-9:30am, this month Leigh of Love Yoga Co-op teaches.

Sunday is the first day for the new lululemon run group for ALL-level runners. Be at the store @ 9am for the inaugural run!

Shopping Alert: Title 9 Blowout – Hurry!

Ladies, head to 183 & Great Hills Trail STAT to score some sweet, super-discounted athletic gear! Title 9 Sports is women’s athletic wear–not just workout, but outdoors-y, hiking, mountain weather, etc. Think Patagonia, Mountain Hardwear, Merrell … Everything is already heavily discounted, plus 20% off that price.

Speaking of Merrell, word on the street is that Merrell shoes are to be had for a mere $39–then 20% off that! Teva flips for $5! Patagonia tanks for $19! Swimsuits! Jackets! Cute messenger bags! Yoga pants! Hiking pants! Skorts! Skorts?? So some of the gear is a little, well, older than my demographic, but there are still some gems to be found. (Aunt Donnie, don’t you wish you were in Austin right now? You’d love this sale!)

Point is, they’re already running low on medium sizes, so get thee to the old Shoe Pavillion in the same shopping center with Truluck’s and Michael’s on Great Hills & 183 as soon as possible. The sale lasts thru Sunday, hours are 10am-7pm.

The new Title 9 store will open full-time on 5th & Lamar in March.

Friday Night Bikes (& Guinness)

Ride your bike to Mellow Johnny’s, pay $10, and be rewarded with apps, wine, and watching Lance peddle in Cali. I didn’t like the shop the one time I went, but now that I know the Juan Pelota joke, I can’t help but promote anything to do with it.

Tour of Cali

Ends just in time to peddle over to Fiddler’s Hearth and participate in The Great Guinness Toast … where a bunch of people all around the world toast with a Guinness. And drink it. And are merry.

Or, head with the Twitterati to The Hub (www.thehubaustin.com) for the same Great Guinnes Toast, plus live music and food specials!

Free drinks more your style? Do512.com and Gameplan are hosting a weekend kickoff party from 8-10pm at Submerged on 2nd and Trinity (this is a new bar; this spot has seen more bar concepts than any other in Austin, but because it has no bars around it, struggles mightily). You MUST RSVP: http://do512.com/event/2009/02/20/weekend-kickoff-party

Circuit City Liquidation! + St. Bernard Sale

Not that bankruptcy is ever really a good thing (for the economy, the company’s workers, so on and so on), but for consumers in need of a computer, camera, printer, etc., Circuit City’s announcement today that it is officially going kaput is a little bit exciting.

Circuit City has apparently hired four liquidation companies to handle the sales, which start tomorrow and run until March 31, pending court approval. The website and call center will cease to operate after Jan. 18.

I hope they have start their liquidation with better discounts than Linens ‘N Things, who started their liquidatoin at a paltry (seriously, you’re going out of business, sell it all off!) 30% off and drew it out FOREVER. I mean, March 31 is a long way off too, but you gotta figure by then all they’re gonna have is a few batteries, a Celine Dion CD, and some Disney movies on VHS that someone found in a box in the back.

When I tried to check out circuitcity.com for deals just moments ago, it said “We’re updating our site with new products and special offers. Please come back in a few minutes.” Could it already be starting!?

On another sale note, unconfirmed rumor is that St. Bernard Sports on Third Street is having a midnight madness sale where everything is 30% off. Paltry? They’re not going out of business.

On the unconfirmed rumor note, rumor has it that the big department stores do their inventory on the 15th, so look for big sales this weekend. (Is this common knowledge that I just don’t know? Or is it an industry secret? Or just wrong?)

Never too early to plan for New Year’s Eve

I’ve never been big into New Year’s Eve–too much money for the same bars I can go to any other night and not pay bajillion-dollar covers and wait in lines. I had friends go to a concert on NYE once, and even that I deigned to join for the same reason. I’ll happily attend house parties, but it’s a tough event to host yourself. Last year I made the mistake of offering to drop friends off downtown … three hours later, I had successfully dropped them off 8 blocks from where they were going and made it out of the mess. Never again will attempt something that foolish.

BUT this year, my more with-it friends have rented out the top of a bar on Sixth Street and evited everyone. So I’ve already put down my ten bucks to reserve my spot with champagne and party hats. For once I know what I’m doing ahead of time! Weird.

For those with less plan-happy friends, or who assume the roles themselves, let me offer some suggestions I’ve run across. I don’t know a lot about the dinner-type things, and I’ll keep updating as I hear more. Let me know what your plans are!

Golf Fashion Show or Achachay! at Red Eyed Fly?

Though I have long professed to hate golf, the last time I went to the driving range I’ll admit to having a lot of fun. For ladies who like to hit the links, Golfsmith is having its second Women’s Night tonight featuring a women-only shopping experience. The Arboretum store will have a fashion show, wine, and golf & tennis skill clinics and contests. Best part? Each attendee will receive a $25 cash card to use in the store! 6:30pm.

Achachay! at Red Eyed Fly: I like it not only because it rhymes, but because my little bro (all 21 years of him) is playing! Achachay! is a pretty badass band that also happens to own a tour bus called the Ho Bus that resides in my driveway, which I do not appreciate. But don’t let that distract from how great the show is going to be tonight! What do they sound like? Um, good? It’s a fun show, just come! 8:30-10pm, Red Eyed Fly, $5 cover.

UT Volleyball Game vs Nebraska

Pitting #4 Texas against #3 Nebraska in some badass women’s volleyball action, the Big 12 Showdown is slated for 8pm tomorrow, Wednesday. It’s likely to sell out–it did last year–so get your tix stat for a mere $4-$10. It’s at Gregory, so the $4 seats should be just as good as the $10 seats.

I haven’t ever been to a UT women’s volleyball game, so I’m super excited about getting to see some really high quality volleyball! Maybe it’ll even get me inspired again … after the Olympics I decided that I wanted to become a pro volleyball player and play in the Olympics, but life quickly got in the way of that one.

Tickets can be purchased online through TexasBoxOffice.com or by phone by calling 512-471-3333.

… you can also do the LAST FREE CROSSFIT WORKOUT at Town Lake at 6:30, take a super-fast shower, and be at the game before, well, whatever they call the start of a volleyball match. Opening serve?

lululemon Grand Opening Downtown Friday

lululemon is known for soft, silky yoga wear, but they’ve expanded into a lifestyle brand and have been offering free yoga classes in Austin for quite some time. Friday, their new downtown store next to Sparks Cards & Gifts just off the corner of 6th & Lamar finally opens!!

There are free classes this weekend, including a free Crossfit workout (though I’m partial to my boys at Crossfit Austin, whose workout Saturday am is at 9am, 30 minutes later!). Schedule:

lululemon free class schedule

Their grand opening party is next Thursday and features a sushi chef and more! Details next week…
