Rain or shine, Hell or high water, three local CrossFits are getting together to host a pre-St. Pat’s workout under the South First Street bridge tomorrow morning. DO IT!

[this includes you, boozy SXSWers! Pre-work-off-your-binge-drinking at a perfectly reasonable 10:30am!]

You will LOVE it. Even if it’s 43 degrees and raining.

Your Lucky Day: SXSW

http://spreadsheets.google.com/pub?key=p2_e5Pa9NwdSkKQEQs3v1MA

This, my friends, is all you need for SXSW. It is a spreadsheet of the best parties.

The criteria:

-Free

-Free booze / food / cool stuff

There are a million and a half lists out there with free parties. Most focus on music. This is not what I care about. I care about swag. And good times. Music involved is great, and helps make good times, but music alone does not a good time make.

I am an expert in free parties. I partied for 65 1/2 hours last year. That’s NOT including sleeping or time in transit. That’s 65 1/2 hours of on-the-streets, party-hoppin’, free-stuff-carryin’, raw SXSW action. Trust me when I tell you that the parties on my spreadsheet will be the best, the most fun, and reward you with the most branded junk you might not need. But you want it.

It will be constantly updated on the new tab you see on the top navigation bar. Check back for more goodies.

The top three–so far–are highlighted in green: Rachael Ray (the food), Facebook (the people), and Standard Recording/Craftster (the crafts).

PARTY ON! SXSW 2009!

Special thanks to @lodea for her research and updates!

Dai Due & Hotel Saint Cecilia

Dai Due is this Supper Club type deal that has this crazy cult following. Their Dinners book up way in advance, and it’s basically just two people cooking a dinner where you don’t necessarily know what you’re getting at a location you don’t necessarily know before you book. They range from $45 and up.

The one coming up this Sunday is at uber-hip Hotel Saint Cecilia. The Saint Cecilia has been covered as a beacon of style by lots of local media, who tout its historic 1880 Victorian estate and seamless combination of antiques, pop modern furniture, and original artwork as its selling points. With 14 rooms scattered between the Victorian and modern bungalows, the hotel is private but right off South Congress.

Point being, the dinner is SOLD OUT. But book a room that night at Hotel Saint Cecilia at a 25% discount and receive a seat at the table.

The dinner focuses on wild resources available in Central Texas.  Wild boar, rabbit, venison, antelope and fish, all harvested by Broken Arrow Ranch, will be paired with peak season winter vegetables, local grains, and fruit from Boggy Creek Farm.  Local cheeses will follow in front of the fireplace in the beautiful hotel bar.  BYOB, 7pm, indoors, live music, $75 per person.

This is one of those things I say I’ll do when I’m “rich.”

Details: HSC website, or to book a room with the discount, contact Michael at (512) 852-2424.

Cissi’s RSS: Free Desserts & Wine Specials

When networking isn’t really your thing (or after you’ve gotten your fill of business cards), check out The Cissi’s RSS (Really Sweet Syn) Feed Event

Cissi’s Wine Bar (1400 South Congress) invites the Foodie Blogosphere, Twitters, Facebook subscribers and Yelp yelpers to enjoy some RSS (Really Sweet Syn) in its warm, roomy, Wi-Fi ready wine bar that just opened in Austin’s so-cool SoCo. This sweet night of decadence takes place tonight from 7 to 10 pm.

The RSS Feed features Cissi’s acclaimed pastry chef, Faith Hoi Yan Chan, and her critic approved (and drooled over) sweet treats such as hot Belgian Ale Doughnuts, which were recently featured as one of Austin Chronicle’s Best Bites: Sweet Bites of 2008. Original desserts such as the fancy Tangerine Financier (a dessert that puts the recess in recession), Roasted Peanut Macaron with Caramelized Banana Ganache and the Mini Sacher Torte will make a sneak peak at the blogger bash but will be formally introduced to the bar menu in mid- to late-February.

Guests can mosey on to the sidebar for complimentary Kohana coffee creations and 1/2 price wine, including $5 discounted glasses of the Terregaie Prosecco and Coume del Mas Banyuls Blanc, tasty dessert wines. Each was chosen by Cissi’s sommelier Nat Davis to perfectly compliment each confection.

Walk ins are welcome, but guests can pull page rank by reserving their spot at: jette@decorjette.com. I’ve been wanting to scope out Cissi’s, so I can’t wait to stop by for a treat!

Menu for the RSS Feed:

Belgian Ale Doughnuts: Warm Beer Toffee Sauce, Peanut-Fleur de Sel Toffee

Tangerine Financier: Browned Butter Almond Cakes infused with fresh Tangerines

Roasted Peanut Macaron with Caramelized Banana Ganache: Crisp and chewy Almond & Peanut Sandwich Cookies with a Caramelized Banana White Chocolate Ganache

Mini Sacher Torte: Small Bite-sized version of the classical Austrian dessert. Dense layers of chocolate cake with housemade Apricot Preserves and Dark Chocolate Glaze served with a side of “Schlag” or whipped cream as is done traditionally.

I’m planning on checking it out (who can turn down dessert?) but also planning for it to be a madhouse, as all of the local press has publicized it … my advice? RSVP!! jette@decorjette.com.

Jo’s Chili Cold Blood Chili Cook-Off

Name? Don’t get it. Related to the band that plays? Whatevs, because Chili Cook Offs in general, I get. And love. [Well, used to, before I only ate free-range meat, which I doubt most chili-makers are employing these days. And I already missed the vegetarian chili cook-off...]
  • Highlights: Local musicians featuring Chili Cold Blood, HoneyBread, WoodsBoss, DJ Chicken George and Tina Rose and the Jo’s House band.
  • Beer specials all day at Jo’s.
  • Proceeds from the cook off will go directly to Safe Place. Enter for the cook-off no later than Thursday January 22nd by 4pm. You can register at Jo’s on South Congress or go to www.joscoffee.com. Your space in the Jo’s parking lot will be available at 8:00am on Saturday, please plan to be cooking by 9:00am

Hey! Cupcake 2nd Location on Burnet Rd.

While I don’t personally care for Hey! Cupcake’s cupcakes (I MUCH prefer Sugarmama’s), in the interest of keeping up with the cupcake trend I feel obliged to point this out.

Hey, Cupcake! opened a second location on Saturday, and this location is in an actual store rather than a silver Airstream on South Congress. But don’t worry, owner Wes Hurt took apart and reassembled his signature silver airstream trailer, so as not to lose the Hey! Cupcake signature feel. This location also features cupcake-inspired clothing by Austin designer Chelsea Fullerton, which I’m not so sure about myself.

5530 Burnet Road.: 9am-10 pm Tuesdays-Fridays, noon-10pm Saturdays and 1-9pm Sundays.
