JewelMint: A Review of Membership (or, I love the Liberty Ring)

JewelMint. I admitted I bought it here. You can sign up here.

Because then you could receive this beautiful little package in the mail:

Then, inside would be this ring:

Which would look just dazzling on your finger:

It’s a subscription service, but it’s easy to refuse a shipment for the month, easy to customize your selections, and most of the designs are super cute. Everything I’ve gotten so far has been of good quality—not the best, but certainly not the worst. I’m a huge fan of the service for trendy pieces I don’t have time to look for in stores.

Take a SXSW Break to Shop for Freewaters

When all the hipsters invade town (I’m looking at you, MUSIC festival), inevitably TOMS take over the streets. What’s more hipster than donating a pair of shoes to a barefoot kid somewhere else in the world while rocking the UGLIEST shoes known to man? (Even the wedges are ugly, and I really, really tried to believe they were cute.) Yes, I like golden sparkles and batik prints too, but the shoe is STILL UGLY.

Anyway, the point of this post was really positive, not to pee in the TOMS cheerios. A new line of sandals is launching called Freewaters, and they’re sassy flips that also donate drinking water for an entire year to someone in need of clean water!

Freewaters sandals

How adorable are these?? The sandals offer a “Fit Perfect Design” to fit the foot instantly (click here for the nerdy details, Interactives). This style is only $36, a solid version is only $26. Cheap for a pair of flips for you and water for someone for a FULL YEAR! Women’s sandals in leather run up to $80; men’s sandals run $26-$100.

Aspen: Mountain Naturals $6.50 Burger

Burgers aren’t hard to find in Aspen (LOVE Belly Up’s double and sweet potato fries!!) But burgers under $10? Rare. So when Mountain Naturals, the crunchy store in the ABC, announced lunch specials like a $6.50 burger, I had to check it out.

Mountain Naturals burger Aspen

Served on an english muffin with as many toppings as you’d like, the grassfed local burger is delicious. It’s not huge, but it’s good. I ate it sans muffin:

Still delicious like that. That speaks to the quality of the meat, the flavorings, and the perfect cooking technique!

I took guests that were in town to lunch here and to the airport immediately after. It was the perfect send-off! They also happen to sell frozen free-range breaded chicken tenders, something I’ve NEVER seen before, and one of the best trail mixes I’ve had (up front by the registers).

I lived in ABC for 5 months and never ate at Mountain Naturals … don’t let that happen to you! Take advantage of a little hippie store gem in the ABC and stop by.

Austin: Manuary Party for the Men

I have never heard of this Manuary idea, but as men are occasionally left out here at this blog (you may like my fashion posts a smidge less than the other fabulous things I write), I feel obligated to post. Plus I really like Dulce Vida tequila.

More on EverSave

It’s no secret that living, even part time, in Aspen is expensive. One of the funniest things about it is shopping online … when you don’t have the same access to stores that you do in Austin, you gotta shop somewhere!

So lately I’ve been loving EverSave’s online deals (you know I knew about them first, right?). You may have seen my tweets, and it may look like I am slightly out of control. While I love the Groupon hyper-local deals (I’m coming to eat you, Snap Kitchen!), I have also started to really love EverSave‘s online ones. Case in point:

Designer Chatter

Today’s Save:$35 for $75 worth of deeply discounted designer denim, handbags, shoes and more at DesignerChatter.com

Expires 03:00 AM – Dec 14, 2010

Plus you get free shipping.

This is a big one, because I ordered a wine.com deal and it didn’t come with free shipping. I put a $10 bottle of wine in my cart, shipping was $12. Are you for real?! It went on like this until I gave up and ordered wine glasses (stemless!) because they were the cheapest to ship and we need some anyway.

I digress. Shop online. You can do it anywhere, even a lil mountain town buried in snow. Cheaper with eversave (and I get $. Let’s not forget about that. But I clearly immediately spend it on more eversaves).

Austin: Do You Want This Ring?

Because I love it. It’s rough yet refined. Go to new jewelry boutique Schatzelein (shots.a.line) to buy it.

Featuring high-quality materials, up-and-coming designers, and both new and vintage finds for gals and guys, Schatzelein is a must-see destination for jewelry and accessories.

Austin: Gilda Grace Opens Friday

As if my neighborhood wasn’t cool enough already (Snap Kitchen? El Arbol?), a new boutique graces the Brykerwoods area. Gilda Grace Collections opens Friday, November 19th at 10am. Gilda Grace is assembled like a woman’s closet, albeit one curated by Austin-based entrepreneur and designer Nere Emiko.

The multi-level boutique features Emiko’s Beth Elis line, a high-end wedding dress line. Beth Elis has been featured in Brides, The Knot, and The Wedding Channel. Because Emiko is a study in contradictions–her degree from Carnegie Mellon is in Electrical and Computer Engineering–naturally her boutique would feature all sorts of fashions, from casual to formal, relaxed to stiff, practical to impossible … plus hard-to-find books, antique furnishings, and rare paper products.

Want some names? Try chocolates from Maison Bouche, leather pillows from Beirn, books from DAP and Assouline, and all sorts of goodies from Ittala, Lafco, Soolip, Libretto, Triple C Design, Modern Alchemy, and Design Abroad.

Of course, there’s still the outdoor garden for dinner parties, baby and bridal showers, teas, happy hours, and even small weddings. What more could you want, really?

Welcome to the nabe.
