Aspen: AYP Holiday Party

In continuing Aspen’s party-every-night trend, and party at Sky Hotel (that’s the one at the base of Aspen Mountain with the hot tub …), the  8th Annual Aspen Young Professionals Holiday Party takes place Thursday December 9th. It’s AYPA Members only but non-members can join at the door for $50.

A cash bar will be available throughout the party. This year’s party will benefit LIFT-UP’s Baguettes Fund, which stocks an Aspen food pantry. Make a donation by purchasing a raffle ticket or two ($10 for one raffle ticket; $20 for 4 tickets) and become eligible to win a fabulous door prizes.

Aspen: Pow Party

Aspen’s party season is already in full swing! Local nonprofit PowderToThePeople.org is holding its fifth annual Pow Party Fundraiser on Friday, December 3, from 5:30-8pm, at the (exclusive?) Eagles Club on Bleeker Street in Aspen.

Powder to the People is an organization dedicated to championing public access to lands. Basically, they want to snowmobile wherever they want. Which I support, but let’s just be clear on what it is. :-)

The evening will include appetizers, live music, door prizes, and silent and live auctions. Suggested donation of $20. The party will be preceded by a snowmobile and backcountry gear swap from 3-5:30pm in the Eagles Club parking lot.

May be a lot of old guys, but might be a lot of fun too!

Austin: Red’s Porch First Birthday (free stuff)

Head to Red’s Porch on S. Lamar for a birthday party on Sunday, Nov. 21 starting at noon.

There’ll be drink specials, free food, music, and a washers tournament. The washer tournament will kick off the party at noon sponsored by Graham Barnes Distilling with drink specials from Treaty Oak Rum and Grahams Texas Tea Vodka (my FAVE ever).

Beer specials include a special cask of Lagunitas Brown Shugga, two types of special release Sierra Nevada 30-year Anniversary, Stone Russian Imperial Stout and (512) Brewing beer specials. The special cask of Lagunitas Brown Shugga will be tapped at 2 p.m. and the first 40 to be ordered will receive a free Lagunitas logo glass.

Pit barbecue including pork ribs, smoked chicken, beef sausage, shrimp boil, pulled pork and boudin balls, will be served until it runs out.

Live music artists including The Merles, Medicine Park and Jeremy Stedding will be playing from 1 – 5 p.m.

Also, the birthday party kicks off the new FREE Red’s Porch shuttle, a “veggie” bus which runs on french fry oil straight from the fryers. TIf you live in the 04 (or a three mile radius of Red’s) and have eight or more people, you can schedule in advance and the veggie bus will come pick you up, take you to Red’s for lunch or dinner and take you back to a location in your neighborhood. Red’s requires at least 24 hours notice to schedule the free customer shuttle.

Additionally, Red’s is introducing monthly pub crawls and brewery tours. $35 gets you transportation, brewery tours and beer tastings at the breweries and brew pubs, and an appetizer at Red’s when you return.

Aspen: Pray for Snow Party in Snowmass

Because nothing in Aspen is ever online, I had to snap an iPhone pic of the event poster:

Pray for Snow Party in Snowmass

I know little more than what the poster tells you: Base Camp Bar & Grill is apparently opening under new management with a bang, serving FREE BEER and live music for the price of a canned good. Mammoth stew? Just trying to capitalize on the bones all around …

Austin: ZombieBall at Seaholm for HALLOWEEN!

ZombieBall. Is what you should do for Halloween. It’s pretty cheap for a spooky night at Seaholm Power Plant!

Musical lineup includes: Roky Erikson, The White Ghost Shivers, PONG, Killa Dilla, DJ Manny and Rion King.

At midnight don’t miss The Waltz of the Forbidden Flesh; a Haunte’d Couture fashion show and mini opera that has a community of artists led by Cameron Jordan Artistry, and The Dirty Rotten Cabaret, featuring performers from The Blue Man Group and Cirque Du Soleil.

Doors from 8pm to 2am. Advance tickets $20, $30 at the door and $75 for VIP.

Do it! I’ll be there, being Santana, the Cheerio from Glee. Except sluttier because my flyaway cheerleading skirt is made for someone in high school, which I am not.

Aspen: Politickin’

For being such a lil town, Aspen sure is big into politics. And I don’t just mean the who-has-the-best-seats-at-the-Wheeler kind. The coolest thing, despite how you feel about any given candidate, is that Aspen’s political activism is not limited to the over-30, house-owning, property-tax paying set; the youngsters of Aspen are just as involved as their more stately counterparts. Check this out:

A kegger for a senator? If that’s not Gen-Y at its finest, I don’t know what is.

Aspen: BBQ … srsly, it’s so Texas up in here

The First Annual Big Aspen Barbecue Block Party takes place at the base of Aspen Mountain this Saturday and Sunday, August 28 – 29, 2010, from noon – 7pm. The sister event of New York City’s much-beloved barbecue extravaganza that includes food, music, seminars, and more.

There are a bunch of big names serving up the ‘cue, including, because it’s so Austin up in here, Mike Rodriguez from Salt Lick BBQ. He’s serving up brisket & sausage. Other heavy hitting pitmasters:

Admission to the event is free. Plates from across the country are available from top pitmasters for only $8 per plate.

Proceeds from the Big Aspen Barbecue Block Party support the Aspen Community Foundation, which builds philanthropy and supports nonprofit organizations throughout the Roaring Fork Valley.

Despite the fact that I’m from Texas, I don’t love barbecue. People hate to hear this, but it’s true. I don’t like sickly-sweet barbecue sauce, I don’t like the sides for barbecue (potato salad? gag me), I don’t like smoke off the grill. That said, I do love me some grilled meat sans all that other junk, which I’m hoping to get this weekend. YUM!!

Austin: Saturday East Sixth Barhop for the Birds

Saturday from 7-9p at the East Sixth Birds Barbershop, there’s an art show-ish party featuring photos of happy clients over the past few months as they walked out of the salon–looking their best, natch. To show off their handiwork, Birds is having this partay with Cruz Tequila, a dancefloor mixtape by Tackybuns, and tasty snacks by Cheer Up Charlie’s.
At 9p, head out the door to Shangri-La and Cheer Up Charlie’s across the street, where Birds is buying the first round. Both will be displaying art from the campaign too. Tonight’s gonna be an east sixth night …
