Austin: Give 5% to Mother Earth

The third year of the “Give 5% to Mother Earth” campaign has blown up in Austin, with over 120 businesses committing to donate five percent of gross sales on April 21st, the Saturday of Earth Day weekend, to six non-profits that dedicate their time and energy into making Central Texas a better place.  The business list is absolutely amazing. And getting better every day.

By George, SoLa, Solid Gold, Moss, Guero’s, Fabi + Rosi, Hotel San Jose Lounge, Amelia’s Retro – Vogue & Relics, Alamo Drafthouse and so many more!  The 5% Day will take place on Saturday, April 21st this year – the Saturday of Earth Day weekend. The campaign will benefit HCC, Texas Land Conservancy, Clean Water Fund, Friends of Barton Springs Pool, Sierra Club, and Tree Folks.

Here’s an Earth Week event list:

Free eco-friendly bags!

Today being Earth Day and all, area HEBs are passing out free reusable bags in exchange for just 5 plastic bags! Stop by from 3-7 and become a part of the reusable bag trend.

I have about 7 reusable bags, mainly because once I bring them in the condo it takes me awhile to remember to bring them back out to my car. This may be a bigger problem for me than for most, since it’s a long six-unit walk from the parking lot to my condo, but I recommend stocking up on reusables so you’re never without!
