Getting Designer Deals

With the announcement that the outlets in San Marcos are adding five new luxury stores to their portfolio (7 for All Mankind opened early this month, Tory Burch (yep, former Lance flame) opens August 15, Etro opens August 17, and later Ed Hardy Outlet (blech! those ugly tattoo clothes) and Loro Piana (never heard of it).

As I had to give away my favorite pair of 7s just yesterday (too big … what a glorious predicament: you can’t REALLY be mad that your clothes are too BIG, but you REALLY don’t want to give up the perfect skinny jeans either), I was reminded that you can also find lots of deals online.

Sure, you’re taking a big risk on fit by shopping online, but the convenience just can’t be beat. And using those prolific discounted shopping websites, you can score designer duds at big discounts. I’ve order jeans and swimsuits off of various sites, and they have all worked out for me–surprising, since many people consider jeans and swimsuits to be among the hardest articles of clothing to fit. But I know what looks good on me and what size I wear in specific brands, so it’s worth the risk. Like maybe I could find another pair of 7 for All Mankind Roxy jeans a few sizes smaller …

Some of the sites you have to have invites to, so here is a list of sites, links to an invite (most of the time, I get $$ if you buy something after registering from my link), and my thoughts on ordering from them if I have.

Join one of these invite-only designer sales sites for up to 70% off:

Hautelook Sales

Invite to Hautelook – My first foray into these types of sites, I’ve order 2 bikinis (ViX, LOVE!) and 1 pair of jeans (James!) from the site. Fast, easy, and they’ve recently redone their site to be even easier to understand. My fave.

Invite to Gilt Groupe – I only recently joined, so I can’t say much for it. But style blogger Emily at California-Dreamin’ site Cupcakes and Cashmere is very into it.

Invite to ideeli – Harder to navigate than most, nonetheless I order 2 more ViX swimsuits from here. I loved one of them, but the other was Sophia by ViX, which is ViX’s junior line. Not an okay substitution. I immediately wrote and asked for a refund and they obliged, sending me pre-paid return shipping labels.

Beyond the Rack: enter code NLA09083B57 at Registration – Haven’t bought anything from here.

Thanks for these other ones though!! I signed up :)

  2. Thanks, Mai! I’ll check Rue La La out, I’ve heard of it before but never used it.

  3. I love Rue La La, ideeli, and Hautelook, but I also subscribe to Top Button and Shop It To Me, which has the added benefit of showing you things in your size and brand preferences at various retailers as they go on sale .

  4. I cannot believe a Tory Burch outlet is going in nearby. It makes my wallet itchy just thinking about it.

Of the online shopping outlets, I’ve had the most success with Gilt. Think their inventory & service is the best of the bunch. Just placed my first Rue La La order, which went smoothly.

  5. Once I get my body all Crossfit, it’s ON with a shopping spree. :)
