National Man Day and Texas Testosterone Festival

Just as I was about to use the fact that today is National Man Day (as declared by two dudes over Facebook…) to introduce a fest I just heard about and find utterly hilarious–Texas Testosterone Festival–I read in TTF’s blog:

“To be clear, National Man Day is very different from the Texas Testosterone Festival. National Man Day lasts only one day and is occurring when most of us have to be at work. And how manly is that. The Texas Testosterone Festival is two full days of manly activities.

Hoo-ah.

The Texas Testosterone Festival endorses National Man Day and encourages all men to participate.”

Right. So the Texas Testosterone Festival Presented by SugarBaby Swimwear will bring all things manly to Austin in August.

To be held Aug. 15-16, 2009 at the Palmer Events Center in Austin, The Festival will feature exhibitions of sports, competition, autos and culture for men and active women (whoohoo, we’re invited! sarcasm). Admission to the Texas Testosterone Festival is $6 advance/$9 at the door. Tickets go on sale on Father’s Day (June 21, 2009) which is just perfect if your dad is a manly man.

“The idea for the Texas Testosterone Festival was born out of a plan for the ultimate guys weekend,” said Paul Phelps of Manifest Productions and Events. “You can’t throw a rock in this town without hitting a music festival or charity run, but there’s been virtually nothing for the typical guy. There is a huge niche for an event that is geared for guys and we’re batting this one out of the park. Every guy in Central Texas needs to be at this Festival.”

The Testosterone Festival’s Featured Events include UFC Ultimate Fighter Amir Sadollah, a Fantasy Football Mock Draft with Ladd Biro of the Dallas Morning News, a Spartan 300 Challenge based on the movie “300” (pansies, I will have done that TWICE by the time they attempt it), legendary Jiu-Jitsu master Relson Gracie, video game and poker tournaments and more. Exhibits include an auto show, motorbikes, tattoos by Southside Tattoos, Home Theatre by Austin Home Systems, boats from South Austin Marine and much more. A cash bar provided by DWIDude.com will be open throughout the weekend.

Other cool things include a Basketball Skills Competition Hosted by the Austin Toros where the first place competitor will have the opportunity to participate in the Austin Toros free agent camp for the 2009-10 season; Picture Perfect Spa’s First Annual Texas Fit Model Search to be covered by Chelo Publishing (Natural Bodybuilding & Fitness, Men’s Exercise, Best Body and Exercise for Men Only magazines); Texas Hold’em tournaments running continuously throughout the day on two tables; and more … more details at www.TexasTestosteroneFestival.com.

Despite its sexist convictions that girls don’t like all these things (I do! I do!), I begrudgingly admit that Texas Testosterone Festival sounds pretty damn cool. So mark it on your calendar, and let’s hope I remember to remind you come August.

  7. The second annual National Man Day (NMD) celebration is fastly approaching please join us in celebrating and spreading the word. NMD was founded by two Indiana brothers as a way to encourage men to be better men and to take care of their families, accept responsibility for their actions, and be a be positive role models in their communities. NMD also celebrates the fun things men like to do like grilling a steak, smoking a cigar, hunting or anything that makes a man feel manly.

We’re trying to raise awareness for this glorious day, but we need your help! So far we have more than 360,000 face book users pledging to make June 15th the manliest day of all! We’ve also got a brand new website (www.thereturnofman.com) to help spread the good news.
