Rope Burn … or the day I learned how to lap dance

I snag a parking spot on Fourth and Colorado for my Venus Envy Training Sex Appeal class. (Yes, I hear the WTF) I hop out, clad in workout shorts, a tank top, and a bright pink scarf. The huge curtains at the front of Cuba Libre usher me in to semi-darkness, where a shadowy figure at the bar exclaims, “Oh, you made your outfit so cute with that scarf!” Um, does she know I’m here to work out?

In the lounge at Cuba Libre, six or so girls are waiting, “Flirtinis” in hand, for Sex Appeal class to start. My friend and I down dirty martinis. Our energetic instructor Danyelle announces it’s time. This isn’t about learning how to be sexy, per se, this is about dancing to get in a workout to sultry music … oh, and learning how to give a lap dance to Janet Jackson’s “Rope Burn.” Sweet.

Venus Envy classes

Right.

Despite my misgivings/shyness, I ended up having a great time. It was a pretty good workout too–not CrossFit intense, but definitely a lot of fun with a light sweat. Plus, by the end I was confident enough that I really did look smokin’ hot that I really wanted to go home and give someone a lap dance! (Alas, someone was out of town, and now I’ve forgotten the dance).

They do a different dance every 2 weeks, and you have Monday and Wednesday to get to class. It’s from 6:30-7:30pm, but they recommend you get there around 6 for a cocktail and relaxing time before the class. I’d definitely recommend taking a friend–it eases the initial awkwardness–but this was a fun way to break up my fitness routine. And, if you need to add a lil spice in the romance department, the dances you learn will certainly help take care of that …

  1. you need to record and post a vid so we (I) can critique your form. yes, thank you very much.

  2. I just saw this post from last year and was wondering if they still do these classes! Or if there is anywhere else in Austin to take a class like this~!
