SupportAustin365, thanks for your comment. This Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf, while part of a national chain, is owned and operated by Austinites, and obviously employs Austinites as well.

There's plenty of room in the coffeeshop scene for them all.

This is not Austin. The owners do not live in Austin. There are dozens of local coffee shops within a 2 mile radius, that not only have better coffee, but are much more deserving of your business. This place is part of a 700 +, cookie cutter, mall style chain that plans on opening dozens of locations in Austin. The coffee is mediocre, overpriced, and not "fair/direct" trade as they promote (They do not brew it, but sell whole bean fair trade coffee, which makes up of a very small fraction of their sales). The tackiest part of the place, are the bogus photos plastered all over the place of Zilker Park, as if that is enough to give them that "local vibe" that they are trying to sell. They opened up within 100 yards of an actual local shop, Lift, and put up a huge billboard up within a 30 feet of Flipnotics and Austin Java. If you want better coffee and a healthier local economy, spend your money at...Bouldin creek, Cafe Caffeine, Clementine, Dominican Joe, Flipnotics, the Garden District, the Green Muse, The Hideout, Jo's, Little City, Mundi, Rutamuya,...the list goes on and on.
Yes yes, north central, central north - anything north of the campus and downtown and the river usually gets that designation.

I'm in Crestview, so north north or north central of you.

Have a good weekend.

Kerri - I loved the swag bag too, but it's horrible for my waistline!

Joe - While I share your love for our neighborhood, I still don't consider 38th & Lamar "North" ... it's very central. I read somewhere (don't know where) that the "true demographic center" of Austin is somewhere near 51st...
