New permanent feature of This is Life in Austin

I’m excited to announce that I’ve installed a new page focused entirely on trends. This isn’t months out–this is what you need to go to the store, buy today, and wear tonight. Some of it will be unreasonable ($795 shoes?!), but it’s all about inspiration, people. So enjoy! Click on the tab above, or this link.

Really, it just looks like this:
When spring has sprung, people tend to think of the pastels associated with Easter and the airy summer whites you’ve missed under the weight of winter sweaters, even here in Austin. But this spring is, like much of the past year, all about color. Color everywhere, especially in strappy, sassy, flirty heels–because the simplest way to make an entire outfit pop is one eye-catching accessories, and in this case, that’s brightly-hued shoes. Thank skirt- and capri-weather for the chance to show these babies off! (Editor’s note: Don’t you EVER wear heels with shorts. MAYBE platforms. But never, ever, ever stiletto heels. Don’t care how dressy you think the shorts are. They are still shorts. And heels and shorts don’t belong together.)

The second major trend we’re seeing is STRIPES. As you strip down for spring and summer, go ahead and Stripe Down too. Stripes never go OUT, per se, but they’re more in than ever before this year. Check out some of This is Life in Austin’s fab finds below:

  1. Yes please, love this.

  2. You might know that a native South Austinite would have a different list.

    1. Go eat at Rosie’s Tamale House out on Hwy 71. Eat the “Willie’s Plate”. Ask a member of the family at Rosie’s how the “Willie’s Plate” got it’s name. If you are up for breakfast, you have got to go there for breakfast tacos. Try the “Suicide”. It’s worth it.

    2. Take the drive on Hwy 12 from Dripping Springs to San Marcos. You will go through Wimberly. Seel the Hill Country at its best.

    3. Climb to the top of Mount Bonnell.

    4. Go to Lockhart and eat BBQ at Smitty’s, but don’t ask for a fork because they don’t have any.

    5. Go eat enchaladas at “The Frisco” on Burnet Road. They brag on their burgers, but trust me, eat the enchaladas.

    6. If it’s summertime, go tube down the Guadalupe River down in New Braunfels. It’ll take most of an afternoon, but be sure and take an ice chest with beer.

    7. Alamo Drafthouse we agree on. Cool Place. I like the one on South Lamar.

    8. Sunday brunch at Stubb’s BBQ downtown.

    9. Chicken Fried Steak at “The Broken Spoke” on South Lamar. The mashed potatoes are good too.
This is in the front of one of the most celebrated country dance halls in Texas. Be sure to visit the museum in while you are there. Go back at night an kick up your hills. Dance that is.

    10. Go to the Austin Zoo out west of town on Hwy 290. Great little zoo, that is comprised mostly of rescue animals. They have a great petting area for kids.

Well, that’s my list and I left some really good places off.

    6.

    • Mike, totally agree with your suggestions too! I tried to present my top ten in a timeline fashion that a person could follow, and keep in mind people staying downtown and not wanting to travel far from it. That said, your snapshot of Austin is a great one too!
