Thank you guys for sharing in my cupcake love! Kat and MBR, did you go? What were your thoughts? Edger, I used to do the exact same thing with one of my friends--we were a match made in heaven!

So I had friends go this weekend and they gave me this report:

- The Southern Belle (red velvet) was phenomenal.
- The Brunette was good, but the icing was better than the cake. This is coming from a "Cake" not an "Icing."
- The Banana Pudding was "really really good, and I want to go back," according to one sampler
- The Marilyn Monroe rated an 8 on a scale of 1 to 10

Glad to know someone else had a bad experience with Hey Cupcake! I thought it was just me and my annoyance by tourists on South Congress. Sugar Mama's has a pretty high rating on Yelp.com, and I've been considering checking out for a while... If we agreed on Hey Cupcake, we'll probably agree on Sugar Mama's! Mmm!

I usually couldn't be bothered with the cake portion of the cupcake either. A friend a I used to have a deal at work during every celebration that involved cake in which we each took a piece, she ate the cake from both pieced and I ate the icing from both. And I loved the chocolate cake part of the peanut butter cup cupcake too! I actually thought the peanut butter flavor of the icing wasn't bad either. And I totally agree about the built in portion control...I'm happy to pay someone to do that for me!

My wife just mentioned Sugar Mama's yesterday. In the context of, we need to go there and try their cupcakes. She loves their name and has heard good things about their goods.

As my thank you to you for taking the time to write your blog, I did as you asked and voted for Austin at Sprinkles. I see they're coming to Houston so they may be here before too long. Maybe after the hurricane they'll decide Houston's not such a good location and head about 100 miles west.

I've had a near constant craving for cupcakes for a couple years as a result of hearing (on the Howard Stern show) a lot about the "Artie Lange Cupcake" made by Crumb's Bakery in NYC: Vanilla sponge cake filled with chocolate buttercream, Covered in vanilla cream cheese frosting and topped with chocolate fondant icing w/white and chocolate sprinkles on the sides. Retail: $3.75 per cupcake.

Thanks!
