Polkadots Cupcake Factory

When I heard about this company called Polkadots Cupcake Factory suddenly sponsoring all these happy hour-type events, I had to see what the deal was. Plus, the cupcake trend has gotten so out of hand, and these places are cropping up everywhere.

A friend and I split two cupcakes: the cookie dough, and the chocolate peanut butter. Both were really good, the cookie dough’s chocolate icing wasn’t as good, but the inside had a big ball of actual cookie dough inside, so I couldn’t complain too much. As for the other cupcake, the chocolate cake wasn’t as good as the peanut butter icing. Basically, I needed the peanut butter icing on the cookie dough cake.

I also must admit that I’m writing this post-visit to Sprinkles, a cupcake bakery in Dallas (they also have one in Houston) that started in Beverly Hills and which gave me absolutely the best half of a cupcake I could ever have imagined. I mean, this thing was OUTSTANDING. Flavor: Peanut butter chocolate. Description: “chocolate chip-studded peanut butter cake with fudgy milk chocolate cream cheese icing.” Love: me. I only got a half, and it changed my life. It was better than the wedding cake I tried later that night. Sprinkles, please come to Austin.

In the meantime, Polkadots is probably the best substitute. Or I’ll have to give them another try to see if they can trump Sprinkles. :-)

  4. So good to hear that you loved the popovers at Trio. Coming from the Northern parts we used to have these as a breakfeast treat. We served them a little differantly. Butter and rasberry jam.
